As The Economist celebrates its 175th anniversary, the classical liberal values that it has championed are as relevant as ever. Yet liberalism’s core tenets—faith in open societies and free markets—face greater resistance. A rise in populism and authoritarianism, a denigration of experts and inquiry, and a rejection of open markets threaten the stability and prosperity of the past 70 years.

The Open Future Festival, taking place in three cities over a 24-hour period on September 15th, will grapple with the most urgent issues of our time. Robust debate between people with diverse ideas, mediated by The Economist’s journalists, will give festival-goers an opportunity to help refresh the liberal mission for modern times. Hear from prominent figures from across the political spectrum, as well as innovators, entrepreneurs, critics and connoisseurs, during a global conversation hosted in London, New York and Hong Kong, and live-streamed online. Come with ideas to share, and be prepared for a day of mind-stretching discussion.
