I think he would beat his 2009 version (leaving aside his 2009 version lost) today. His game as evolved even more since then. He finishes points faster and his backhand is far more penetrating.
This article also understates Federer's resurgence. He won the Australian open against a reasonably full field and even last year when Djokovic and Murray were playing well after beating Rafa in an incredible final.
